Area Lutherans collecting for victims of Sandy

The four Bristol Lutheran Churches are teaming up, with the help of the Hartford County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy in CT and New York. Gloria Dei, St. Andrew, Zion and Immanuel Lutheran Churches are all working together to collect much needed supplies to fill a truck on Saturday, Dec. 15 to benefit the Hurricane Sandy Victims in Connecticut and New York.
Gloria Dei at 355 Camp St., Bristol, is accepting donations on Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or on Sundays, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
St. Andrews at 1125 Stafford Ave. is accepting donations and ask that you call ahead of time at (860)583-5809 for drop off times. Zion Lutheran Church at 27 Judd St., is accepting donated supplies also, and can be reached at (860)589-7744. Immanuel Lutheran Church at 54 Meadow St., Bristol, is collecting supplies Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or on Sundays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Items being collected are:
Shelf stable, non-perishable food items such as: Canned tuna, chicken, salmon, peanut butter, canned beans, meaty soups (Cans with pull-tabs are preferred), and pasta amd sauce packages (can be easily heated up), low salt canned veggies, canned fruits packed in their own juices, bottled water; instant oatmeal, rice, single snack packs and juice boxes (low in sugar).
Cleaning Supplies:
Cleansing powder (such as Comet cleanser or Ajax), hydrogen peroxide (is a great non-toxic cleanser), dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, glass cleaner, scrub brushes, sponges, disposable rags, paper towels, liquid cleansers, rubber gloves, AA and AAA batteries, pails, mops, and 30 gallon garbage bags.
Other: Baby formula, diapers, shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, winter coats, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, but no other clothing please.
Monetary donations are also being accepted to benefit the ELCA and LCMS Disaster Response.
The victims of Hurricane Sandy need both supplies, as well as long term help, so both are truly critical at this time. Your monetary donations should be made payable to any one of the four churches, (with Hurricane Sandy in the memo) and not only will your donation be tax-deductible, but a matching donation from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans up to $100,000 will be added to the total donated.
