Bristol Central falls to Wethersfield in girls hoop action

The Bristol Central girls basketball team fell just a bit short in its contest at Wethersfield on Friday, December 14 and dropped a tough 44-38 decision in a CCC Interdivisional battle.
Central lost for the first time this season (2-1) but simply couldn’t get anything going against a more physical, better shooting Eagles’ squad.
In fact, a couple mental mistakes eventually led to five Wethersfield points and those were, perhaps, the difference in the outcome.
“They outworked us,” said Central coach Steve Gaudet of Wethersfield. “They pushed us around. They were more physical than us. They out-hustled us. That’s as poor an effort we’ve had all year. In practice, in a scrimmage, in a game…that’s as poor an effort mentally, physically, all of the above (this season).”
Central’s Chandler Walker just missed a double-double but zipped in nine points, snatched 17 rebounds, blocked two shots and also had two steals in a solid all-around performance that saw the player suffer a leg cramp throughout the showdown while getting poked in the eye which slowed her down a bit.
The Rams led 9-8 after one period but was outscored 15-4 in the second period to trail 23-13 at the half.
Central closed it to two points early in the third frame but never got it closer than three from that point.
