PLAINVILLE – Usually at the annual Plainville wrestling tournament, the squad from Bristol Central is a top finisher at the always competitive event.
At the 12th Annual Plainville Invitational from the Ivan Wood Gymnasium on Saturday, December 15, West Springfield, Massachusetts won the event with 238½ points while Bristol Central had a tremendous showing and came away with 209 points, good for second place.
Central’s second place finish included four top finishes as the Rams ruled in some of the heavier weights at the tournament.
At 160, Glen Pierce took the medal in the class while at 182, there weren’t any surprises as Gino Rafaniello placed first.
Central football favorite Cy McIntosh took the 195 weight-class and in the heavyweight battle (285), another pigskin warrior, Marty McNiff, took the first place medal for the Rams.
The Ram finished 35 points better than third place Minnechaug, Massachusetts.
Plainville, the host of the tournament, took sixth place while CCC South challenger Maloney of Meriden took fourth (160).
