Bristol Eastern smashes Plainville in boys hoops

The Bristol Eastern boys basketball team picked up its biggest victory of the season, downing Plainville 75-41 in a CCC South tilt from the Ivan Wood Gymnasium in Plainville on Tuesday, January 8.
The Lancers scored 12 of the first 13 points in the game – including a steal and dunk by Mike Belton (10 points, three steals) as defense ruled the day for the visiting team.
Eastern’s leading scorer, Kevin Love, pumped in a season high 33 points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists in a dominating effort.
Love canned 13 of 18 field goals in the fray while collecting six offensive rebounds to simply overwhelm the Blue Devils.
The Lancers tallied 21 assists off 31 baskets in an impressive effort.
Ryan Chiasson added 10 points and three assists while George Taylor notched eight points and dished out three assists for Eastern.
Gabe Ungaro collected seven points, five rebounds and five assists for the Lancers, now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in CCC South play.
Plainville’s Eric Fischer and Matt Thomas each netted 10 points for the Blue Devil’s (0-8) while Tyler Favreau added nine against a very overwhelming opponent.
Shane Pugliese notched six points but Plainville simply couldn’t string any points together as the Lancers led from wire to wire.
Eastern scored 29 points in the first period and led by 17 after one frame of play.
The Lancers outscored Plainville 22-9 over the second frame and scooped up a 51-21 push at the half.
Plainville got only as close as 24 points the rest of the way as Eastern scored a season high 75 points.
In the JV game, Daron McKoy drained a game high 31 points as Eastern defeated Plainville in overtime 50-45.
