Registration for city’s aquatic programs to begin Jan. 14

Bristol Parks and Recreation Department is offering a wide variety of aquatics programs for whole family. Registration for winter aquatics programs begins Jan. 14 online at www.bristolrec.com or in person at the Dennis Malone Aquatics Center, 325 Mix St., Bristol.
Youth Programs
Learn to Swim- Swimming lessons will be held on Saturday and Sunday mornings throughout the school year. Each session consists of eight classes meeting once a week. Class levels and times may change each session as needed. Please visit www.bristolrec.com for guidelines for appropriate level placement. The fee per session is $30.00.Session 3: Saturdays- Jan. 26 to March 13; Sundays- Jan. 27 to March 17. (Please note: Registration begins Jan. 15 for non-Bristol residents).
Specialized Swim Lessons- This class is designed to accommodate the individual with special needs or circumstances. The instructor will work with the student to accomplish individual goals. For more information on participant eligibility, contact the aquatics director. This class runs once a week for eight weeks on Saturdays or Sundays following the same schedule as the Learn to Swim program. Fee to participant is $30.
Stroke Clinics/Dive Clinic- These clinics are geared toward the swimmer who is interested in refining techniques used in competitive swimming. These clinics are a great experience for swimmers who are interested in participating on the Summer Swim Team. Try the clinic first to see if the Swim Team is for you. Fee is $45 per session. All sessions meet from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Beginner- (Monday to Wednesday: Session A: March 18 to April 10. Session B: April 15 to May 8.
Intermediate-Tuesdays and Thursdays— Session A: March 19 to April 11. Session B: April 16 to May 9.
Dive Clinic- Fridays—March 15 to May 10. (No class on Good Friday, March 29.)

Adult Programs
Master Swim Team: Meets Jan. 29 to Feb. 21 (eight trainings)
The Master Swim Team is perfect for adults who can comfortably swim but are looking to refine their strokes and mechanics. The team meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 9:15 p.m. for four weeks. Session is $45 for eight trainings. This is a great program if you are training for triathlons or even if you just want to have a good workout with friends. Contact the Aquatics Director for more information on joining the team. Registration is available now.
Water Exercise-classes are offered throughout the year with a variety of levels for all abilities. Programs are offered Monday through Fridays at 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. or 6:15 to 7 p.m. Each day and time is considered a separate program. Buy one eight week program for $30 or try the Gold Fitness Pass for $100 to allow you to take any/every class in a given session. Bring a friend or drop into a class for a $5 fee. Class offerings vary per session. Session 3: Jan. 28 to March 22. Specific class schedule is available at www.bristolrec.com
Adult Swim Lessons-This class is offered for adults with any level of swimming ability from non swimmer to intermediate. This class is designed around the goals of the individual to make swimming more enjoyable. Adult small group swim lessons run once a week for eight weeks on Saturdays and Sundays and follow the same schedule as Learn to Swim. Fee is $30 per session.
Red Cross Lifeguard Training- This course is an official certification class that follows the newest American Red Cross Lifeguard Training curriculum. Participants will learn the fundamentals of water safety, CPR/First Aid, and lifeguard skills for responding to emergency situations in and around the water. Special Events
2nd Annual Mr. Frosty’s Freeze-tastic Family Float Night will be held Saturday, Jan. 12 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Snow date is Sunday, Jan. 13.
Get out of the cold and onto your tube for a float at the pool. There will be music, games, refreshments, and fun. Families may rent floats or bring their own. Registration is available now. Spots still remain!
Session A: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Session B: 7:30-9 p.m.
Admission is $5 per person.

The Second Annual Aqua Fitness Festival will be held on Sunday, Jan, 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Pre-registration is required. The night will include fun facts on nutrition and fitness, light refreshments, and an opportunity to get in the water and demo the water exercise classes. The night is a ton of fun and great for you. There also will be a raffle for a chance to win discounts on future water exercise programs.

The first ever Pirate Palooza will be held Saturday, Feb. 23. (Snow date is Sunday, Feb. 24.)
.Bring the whole family out for a fun filled night of dastardly adventures including a Walk the Plank contest, scavenger hunt for sunken treasure, water bomb toss, and more.
Families can float around on ships (tubes) at their leisure or participate in any/all the adventures they would like. A new activity begins every 20 minutes in the pool. For all the land lovers’ face painting, pirate tattoos and sand art will be available in the lobby. You may bring ships from home or rent a ship for $1.00. Concessions are available for hungry sea dwellers including refreshing pirate punch, golden fish, and popcorn booty.
Admission is $5 per pirate (pirates under 5 years are free. But you must call to register them.)
Scoundrels Session A- 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Scalawags Session B- 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Spaces are limited.
The 2nd Annual Teen Night at the Pool will be held Saturday, March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Come out for a night of fun with your friends. Event will include: free swim, floating, diving board, music, food, and fun. This party is exclusive for middle school students or ages 11 to 14 years old.
The cost is $7 a person, which includes food and drink.

Scout Badge Programs
Dates: Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; March 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This event is designed for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to complete certain requirements for belt loops, activity and/or merit badges. Advance registration is required; please contact the front desk or the Aquatics Director for additional information and specifics on requirements covered.
Fee is $5 per participant
