Imagine Nation holding youth poetry contest

The ImagineNationMuseum, located at One Pleasant Street in Bristol, will be holding its annual poetry contest for children in kindergarten through 6th grade.

Entry guidelines are as follows: poems can be of any subject matter, type or style. Entries must be original; no previously published poem will be accepted. Length of each entry must not exceed 32 written lines: this may be one poem or up to three short poems whose cumulative total does not exceed 32 written lines. All entries must be typed, single-sided, 12 point type, on a plain 8 ½” x 11” piece of paper. The title of the poem should appear on the top of the page. Submit one original and one copy. On the copy type only in the top right hand corner, name, grade, age, phone number, and address. Entries will not be returned. Entries must be received by Friday, April 12 at 5 p.m., in a sealed envelope marked “Poetry Contest.” Please mail to: Imagine NationMuseum, 1 Pleasant St., Bristol, CT06010, or hand deliver to same address.

Winners and Honorable Mentions will be invited to read their winning selections at the Imagine Nation Museum Poetry Slam on Wednesday, April 24 at 4 p.m. Winners will be notified the week of April 15 and the judges will be a panel of teachers, librarians, and poetry lovers.

Awards and prizes will be announced at the reading. Prizes will be awarded for each grade, kindergarten-grade 6. Winners may also be invited to read their work at future museum events.
