Police investigating early morning homicide

Bristol police are investigating an early morning homicide that happened on Cypress Street. At about 3 a.m. police responded to a second floor apartment at 21 Cypress St., after receiving a call reporting an injured woman. Police found the body of Shenia A. Walker, 29, who was believed to have suffered from stab wounds; however investigators are waiting for results from the medical examiners office.

Police have arrested 24-year-old Mario E. Rivera of  203 Beths Ave., Bristol who was believed to be in a relationship with Walker. Rivera was arrested and charged with murder and four counts of risk of injury to a minor because children were present at the home. None of the children were harmed. Police said this incident is believed to be a result of domestic violence.

Rivera is being held on a $1.5 million bond, and an arraignment date has not been scheduled as of yet.

According to court records, Rivera has several other criminal cases and traffic violations, and two prior convictions.
