On Sunday, May 5, 5,000 rubber ducks will be dumped into the Pequabuck River with a pay loader as spectators watch them race down the river trying to be one of the first 41 ducks to cross the finish line. This all day event is more than just a duck race, it’s a family fun filled extravaganza. Prizes range from the $1,500 grand prize to a Family Four Pack to the New Britain Rock Cats Baseball to gift certificates to local businesses.
A portion of Central Street is closed in ForestvilleCenter and vendors line both sides of the street promoting their goods. Fried dough, pulled pork sandwiches, ice cream, kettle corn, temporary tattoos, face painting, balloons etc. There will be two bounce houses as well as children’s games where each child can win a free prize.
This year, there will be a craft show with up to 50 vendors expected with free admission. There also will be a DJ, Rocky the Rock Cat, and race’s own mascot, Waddles the Duck.
The event is organized by the Central Connecticut Chamber of Commerce and the Forestville Village Assocation. The proceeds raised are put back into beautifying Bristol; past projects such as the “Welcome to Bristol” signs, planting flowers, and new Christmas Lights for the town poles are just a few of the projects.
