Get your running shoes on and prepare to help a local family dealing with the aftermath of the tragic loss of their mother in a one-car accident in January.
Claudia Lamoureux of Bristol, 39, died on Jan. 26 in an accident on I-84 near Middlebury. She left behind four children, Dominique Campos, 19, Eric Norton, 18, Michael Lamoureux, 16, and Tyler Lamoureux, 11.
To help Lamoureux’s children, her family, friends, and coworkers at Bristol Hospital, where she worked as a technician, have organized Claudia’s Race for the Kids. The fund raising race will be held Saturday, June 8 at Rockwell Park.
Lamoureux’s oldest child, Dominique Campos, said the race is the perfect tribute to her mother. “She used to run a lot. She ran a lot of road races, half marathons. Running was her passion.”
“It was her way of relieving stress,” said Campos.
Organization of the road race came as a surprise to Campos and her siblings. But it was a good surprise.
“It’s great,” said Campos. “Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it.”
“It’s a way to celebrate the life she had,” said Campos. “It make me appreciate (her) and I’m very grateful.”
“We’re going through a lot,” said Campos of her family. The funeral expenses alone have had an impact on the family, said Campos. “(The fundraiser) really helps us.”
Campos remembered her mother as “bubbly, energetic, loving, outgoing, and crazy.” But, crazy in a good way, said Campos. “She was happy all the time,” said Campos
As for how Campos would describe Lamoureux as a mother, “She was very caring. She was an awesome mom… She was also hard working… She worked her butt off for us (children).”
The road race on June 8, which will be held at Rockwell Park at Jacob Street and Dutton Avenue, begins at 8 a.m. with registration. There will be a Kids Fun Run at 9:15 a.m. and a 5K road race begins at 9:30 a.m. There will be prizes for the first place male and females, and awards for the top three in each category. The fee to race is $25.
“It would mean the world to me to get as many runners as possible,” said Campos. “There are definitely a lot of people’s lives my mom touched.”
