Beautification award recipients announced

 The Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce announces the winners of the 2013 Chamber Beautification Awards, which will be presented at the State of the City & Town Breakfast Meeting and Chamber Beautification Awards. The event will take place June 26 at 8 a.m. at Chippanee Golf Club.

 

The Beautification Committee in conjunction with the Men’s Bristol Garden Club judged all of the nominations from the community and chose the winners. Awards are presented to Bristol residents or companies who have made strides to beautify their property through landscaping, maintenance, or physical improvements. The award winners are: Business First Place – DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bristol, Business Second Place – O’Brien Funeral Home, Non-Profit First Place – St. Anthony Church and School, Non-Profit Second Place – St. Matthew Church, Municipal – Stafford School, Family Residence First Place – Laura and John Unwin, Family Residence Second Place – Darvin Michaud, Multi-Family Residence – Riverview Apartments, Best Vegetable Garden First Place – Bruce Yard, Best Vegetable Garden Second Place – Raymond Kowalski, Mayor’s Choice Award – Peter Jancek, Chamber Choice Award – Marilyn’s Pub, and Best in Show – Rose Bourgoin. Covanta Energy sponsors the Beautification Awards.

The State of the City & Town Breakfast meeting will include distinguished guests to give a briefing on the past year. The speakers who were invited to attend include Mayor of Bristol Art Ward, Mayor of Plymouth Vincent Festa, Mayor of Wolcott Thomas Dunn, First Selectman of Burlington Theodore Scheidel, Town Manager of Plainville Robert E. Lee, and Economic Development Director of Farmington Courtney Hendricson. The sponsors for this event include Capital Workforce Partners, Bristol Hospital, Farmington Bank, ESPN, Webster Bank, and Renaissance Downtowns at Bristol.

 The cost to attend the event for Chamber members is $25 prepaid or $30 at the door. The cost for non-members is $35 prepaid and $40 at the door.
