BRISTOL – Anytime you can put together a no-hitter in Little League, it’s certainly a special event indeed.
And on Sunday night, Aug. 4, two throwers from Westport Little League combined to pick up a no-hitter as the Connecticut squad blanked Saco/Maremont of Maine 8-0 in a New England Regional game from Breen Field in Bristol.
The victory was the first for the Connecticut squad as Westport started the tournament with a 1-0 ledger.
On the mound for the Connecticut outfit, Chris Knight started the contest and teammate Max Popken mopped up as the no-hitter came to light.
At the plate, the squad from Maine struggled from the get-go.
Westport tallied eight runs off nine hits in the game as Doug Rogers (triple) and Max Stone (home run) led the way for Connecticut.
In the first inning, Westport scored the first run of the game and going into the second frame with a 1-0 edge, Connecticut slammed the door shut on any possibility of a Maine comeback.
Westport scored six runs in the second, led 7-0 after two completed frames and never looked back.
Stone collected two RBI for Westport as did Harry Azadian.
Knight, Charlie Roof, Ricky Alex Reiner, and Matt Brown all had RBI for Connecticut.
