A most unusual exhibition can be seen at the New EnglandCarouselMuseum, 95 Riverside Avenue in Bristol now through October 19th.
Thanks to the Building Blocks Together Quilt Guild (BBT), the horses in the main gallery are cloaked in BBT’s quilts. Members of the Guild are showcasing their creativity and skill, and inviting curious viewers to appreciate the complexity and joy in the art of quilting.
In a press release from the museum, BBT member Cathy Mitchell, who is organizing this exhibition, credits her father’s influence as an upholsterer for her avid interest in sewing. She discovered her passion for quilting 13 years ago and is “never happier than when I’m working on a scrappy quilt pattern or a plain patchwork quilt,” said in the release.
It was in 1979 that a small group of women with a love for quilting decided to form a “club,” which has grown to over 90 members who meet monthly in Bristol.
, Lynn Limeburner, Betsy Mainuli, Sandy Pavlat, Betsy Reynolds, Patti Slason, Dianne Smith, Pat Wollenberg, and Sandy West.
The exhibit runs through Oct. 19.
