Coyote sighting on Redwood Drive

A resident on Redwood Drive, off of Stevens Street, spotted a large coyote in her backyard early Tuesday morning, around 2 a.m. She said she knows some of her neighbors keep their cats outdoors at night, which could be dangerous if an animal like a coyote is in the area. According to the Humane Society of the United States, pet owners are urged to “let them (cats and small dogs) outside only when you are with them—especially at night—and to keep pet food and water inside.” Coyotes typically hunt small mammals, like mice, moles and rabbits, however they have been known to devour small cats, and possibly even small dogs.
