Rebecca Lobo to be guest at Chamber home show

Every year at the Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce Home and Business Expo, an athlete stops by to meet guests and sign autographs. This year the Chamber has announced its celebrity guest will be Rebecca Lobo, who will be at the Covanta Energy booth on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Both on and off the court, Rebecca Lobo personifies success. As the 1995 Consensus National Player of the Year, Lobo led the University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team to its first National Championship. In 1996, she won a gold medal as the youngest member of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team, before embarking on a successful seven-year WNBA career. In 2001, Lobo and her mother, RuthAnn, founded “The RuthAnn and Rebecca Lobo Scholarship in Allied Health” at the University of Connecticut to encourage diversity in the health professions. Rebecca retired from the WNBA in the fall of 2003 and today works as a television analyst, author, and motivational speaker. She is married to Sports Illustrated columnist Steven Rushin. They live in Connecticut and have four children.
At this year’s Home and Business Expo over a hundred vendors are expected, along with kid’s activities from Home Depot and Boys & Girls Club and Family Center of Bristol, door prizes, mascots from the New Britain Rock Cats, the Hartford Wolfpack and Lake Compounce, plus a huge craft fair. Snacks and drinks will be sold by the Exchange Club of Bristol. The Expo will also feature the Crazy Coupon Chick as seen on Better CT, who will be sharing some tips and answering questions on how to save money.
The 29th Annual Home & Business Expo Saturday, Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bristol Eastern High School, 632 King St., Bristol. Admission to the show is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for children 12 and under.
