Host families sought for Spanish students visiting in June

The Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut (ELCCT) in Bristol’s, the 280 acre Indian Rock Nature Preserve, located on Wolcott Road (Rt. 69) in Bristol, and part of the Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut, Inc., will begin their 2014 summer camp season June 28.

This summer the ELCCT has joined in a partnership with Terra Lingua USA, a Terryville, Conn.-based non-profit student exchange organization to welcome a group of students from Spain.

During this four-week program beginning on June 28, up to 15 students will join the ELCCT summer camp. One of the real awareness-building parts of this initiative is the host family program.  Each student will be placed with a local host family to help them to learn what a typical U.S. family is like while practicing their English proficiency. In turn, the host family will gain the rewards of welcoming a student from another country.

Host families are asked to provide room and board, transportation to/from camp, and make the teen a member of your family. They arrive with full medical insurance and spending money. They will have an intermediate level of English and a desire to learn. A stipend in the amount of $800 will be paid to help cover the costs of hosting.
