Parks and Rec. offering aquatics programs

The Parks and Recreation Department of Bristol has always offered a variety of aquatics programs in the summer. This summer, however, Bristol has decided to offer even more programs to beat the heat and get in shape with the addition of a new Triathlon 101 training program, a Summer Diving program and a number of Classes on the Water in conjunction with Collinsville Canoe and Kayak.

BristolParks and Recreation partnered up with Charles Coaching and Nutrition Services to develop an introductory program for triathlons. This new BristolParks and Recreation program will give youth and adults access to the sport of triathlon, teach them the technical skills needed to compete and flourish in the sport and provide them with the resources and guidance to participate in local events. This program is open to ages 15 to 99 with sessions running on Wednesdayss 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings, 7 to 9 a.m. Session 1: May 27 to July 9 and Session 2: July 16 to Aug. 27. The fee is $150 per session.

Diving is a classic Olympic sport that requires strength, flexibility and courage. BristolParks and Recreation is reintroducing diving to its indoor facility with Division 1 Diver Jessica Goldman coaching the Summer Diving Program. This eight week program is offered as both beginner and advanced sessions. There are only 10 spots available in each session so that the children are sure to get the attention they need to excel in this beautiful sport. It is open to ages 6 to 18.

Also, BristolParks and Recreation is partnering with Collinsville Canoe and Kayak to offer Family Kayaking for all ages on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m or Saturday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $25 a person. Adult Yoga on the Water is offered Thursday, July 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. or Saturday, July 26 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for $50 a person. There are also a number of introductory courses to canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding for adults offered. For a complete schedule please visit
