This Saturday, fashion will take up the gauntlet of fighting pancreatic cancer as His Red Carpet holds the 2nd Annual Danell Jones Fashion Show, featuring several Connecticut fashion designers.
The show will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol. According to the event’s Facebook page, “The fashion show will raise money to bring about effective change and inspiration to victims and survivors of pancreatic cancer. Our initiative is dedicated to continue the awareness of cancer in today’s society. Portions of the proceeds will be given to the Hospital of Central Connecticut Pancreatic Cancer Center.”
Christopher Porcher of His Red Carpet, which describes itself as “a fashion entertainment website (HisRedCarpet.com) that offers news on current fashion trends, celebrity trends, and pop culture,” was asked why organize a show to fight pancreatic cancer.
“Danell Jones, who lost her father to pancreatic on June 12, 2013, wanted to bring awareness to her community,” explained Porcher via email. “She always dreamed of putting together a fashion show during her adult years and felt that having a fashion show would be a great way to bring awareness but still make it exciting for attendees. She wanted to stay away from just doing the norm and wanted to involve as much people as possible.”
This year will be the sophomore year of the event. Porcher said, “At the first fashion show, we had a great response selling over 200 tickets. The feedback from the guests encouraged us to have another fashion show. People were impressed with the designers’ work as well as the structure of the fashion show.”
This year, the designers showing at the event are Mathew Reisman, Brian Hernandez (www.bhernandez.squarespace.com), Urban Natured Clothing (www.urbannatured.com), and Mariely Pratts (marielyprattsdesigns.com).
Additionally, Porcher said, “All the models are Connecticut residents who have previous modeling experience. The majority of the models were picked through two casting calls that we held.”
Asked about the response to the cause and the show from designers and models, Porcher said, “From the models to the designers, everyone was willing and ready to get to work when they were asked to be a part of the second annual show. We found that all the designers were eager to display their talent.”
Although the designers will be featuring their clothes on the runway at the Carousel Museum, Porcher said, “The designers’ clothes will not be for sale at the show. We will provide information on where the clothes could be purchased at the fashion show. Each designer has an online site and that information will be given to the attendees as well. All attendees are welcomes to approach the designers and ask questions after the show.”
That said, guests still will find vendors to browse while they are at the sartorial event. “We will have two cosmetic vendors selling makeup and face products, a jewelry vendor, and two clothing vendors,” said Porcher.
Attendees going to the 2nd Annual Danell Jones Fashion Show “should expect to be a part of a major glam scene,” said Porcher. “The night will be filled with fashion, music, laughter, and young professionals. We expect each and every attendee to have a great night and experience a great deal of excitement.”
The Second Annual Danell Jones Fashion Show will be held at the New England Carousel Museum, 95 Riverside Ave., Bristol from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
