MANCHESTER – All six country squads from the Mum City took part at the 2014 Wickham Park Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 11 from Manchester and each of the boys and girls from the Bristol Central, Bristol Eastern and St. Paul teams had strong finishes at the meet.
In the boys seeded race, Bristol Central came in ninth place overall in a very crowded field.
Josh Signore nailed down an excellent finish of 17:48, which was good for 23rd overall at the event, while teammate Matt Varnum had a showing of 17:56, ending the day in 32nd place.
Josh Nelson (67th, 18:33), Andrew Damon-Smith (77th, 18:46), and Hunter Damon-Smith (92nd, 18:58) all made top 100 showings for the Rams.
Jean Rioux (112th, 19:15) and Roberto Luis-Fuentes (124th, 19:28) also did well for Central.
For Bristol Eastern, the squad finished in 10th place in the boys unseeded race.
And, just like Central, the Lancers had five athletes end up by finishing in the top 100 of the event.
Max Girouard (24th, 18:29) and Ken Tenan (45th, 18:57) were Eastern’s top finishers while Joe Franklin (91st, 19:39), Harrison Dayton (97th, 19:42) and Mike Centoni (99th, 19:46) all did well at the meet.
As did Billy King (131st, 20:15) and Justin Seamour (132nd, 20:20) did well for the Lancers.
The St. Paul boys also participated in the unseeded races as the grouping of Tom Melvin (154th, 20:34), Leo Lian (255th, 22:41) and Thomas Kretsch (256th, 22:42) all represented the Catholic school well.
Bristol Central didn’t score as a team in the seeded race but still did very well overall as individuals.
Hannah Jones nabbed 24th overall with a time of 21:20 while Angela Barton ended the race in 45th place in 21:56.
Also for the Rams, Haley Knox (77th, 22:49) and Ashley Cummings (109th, 23:47) rounded out the afternoon for Central.
The Eastern girls placed 18th as a team in the unseeded race.
The Lancers’ Emily Baranowski was the top runner for Eastern 49th overall with a time of 23:20.
Ciera Thurston finished in 84th place (24:13), Jillian LeBeau took 99th (24:42), Nina Pasqua earned 109th (24:57), and Tejal Monteiro zipped up 187th place (27:08).
For St. Paul, Stephanie Speaker also took part of the girls unseeded race, coming in 43rd overall with a finish of 23:06.
