Forestville Little League officially began construction of their new T-Ball and Instructional field at their complex within Peck Park on Daley Street. The field will help teach over 100 players in the lower levels of the league baseball fundamentals that will help prepare them for continuing their Little League Baseball experience.
The league, which was nearly disbanded at the end of the 2013 season, has experienced a tremendous turnaround in the year since. Player registration has increased and the league has begun hosting a tournament for 8 to 11 year olds from all area towns. Eight teams from Berlin, Bristol, Meriden, Rocky Hill, and Southington played a “Minors” League tournament at the complex and rave reviews were bountiful from parents, officials and coaches of all teams involved. The tournament was a great success and has positioned the league to continue their momentum in providing an exceptional baseball experience for all of its players.
Phase 1 of the project has been fully funded through in-kind donations and reinvestment of funds by the league. The scope of this phase is land clearing, lot prep and final field layout. Phase 2 of the project is dependent on sponsorships and will be primarily focused on the final build out of the field, including top soil, clay, sod and fencing materials.
Completion timeline is dependent on funding with the hope of games being played on the field in 2015.
