Officers receive commendations

Officer Eric Hanson and Officer Gregory Giannini received Letters of Commendation/Officer of the Month Awards at the Dec. 17 Board of Police Commisioners meeting.

According to documents provided by the department, the officers were presented the awards for an incident on Nov. 23.

The officers, the documents said, “were partnered up working a warrant service assignment. While driving on Mix Street the officers noticed and located the source of a house fire…. Upon arrival, they located a resident outside the home who was unaware that the chimney was engulfed in flames. He told the officers that two other residents were still inside the home.”

“Without regard for their own safety the officers entered the home and safely removed a male who was asleep in his bed and an older female who was in the shower,” said the narrative from the police department. “(The officers) also located the family dog and safely removed it from the home.

“No one was injured and this was all accomplished before the arrival of the fire department,” said the narrative.

The department explained, “The fire inspector on scene later said that the home would have been completely engulfed in a short period of time.”
