Bristol FCGymnastics of the Boys & Girls Club of Bristol Family Center will host the 2015 Connecticut AAU Gymnastics State Meet on Saturday, May 2. The event is expected to bring 250 participants, along with their family and friends, to the club’s new facility on West Street.
“Hosting this event is a sought-after opportunity; it’s like landing the gymnastics Super Bowl,” explained Bristol FCGymnastics Program Director and Head Coach Jessica Morelli in a press release from the club. “We’ve grown as a gymnastics program this year, and we’re honored that the AAU board is recognizing our efforts by awarding us the chance to host this great event.”
For Bristol, the release said, the event serves as an opportunity to introduce the city’s All Heart culture to individuals from all over Connecticut. The City of Bristol and Bristol Chamber of Commerce are working with Bristol FCGymnastics to encourage visitors to patronize local restaurants, museums, and other attractions during their stay with exclusive promotions.
“The Boys and Girls Club of Bristol is proving to be a wonderful partner for bringing large crowds to the downtown area,” Mayor Ken Cockayne said in the news release. “The upcoming AAU gymnastics meet may be the biggest event yet, and we’re working to ensure visitors not only enjoy their time in Bristol in May, but come back again and again.”
Three sessions will take place at 8:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for kids under 12.
