Forestville post holding fishing derby

Forestville Village Post #209 will host its first-ever youth fishing derby on May 30.
The free derby will take place at Rockwell Park, and is open to youth up to age 18.
Over 200 trout will be placed in the water at Rockwell Park, all provided by Harding Trout Hatchery.
“This is something we’re going to do every year,” said Brian Avery of Forestville Village American Legion Post #209. “People who want to get involved are very excited.”
Participants will have a chance to win trophies and prizes, including a gift card to Panera Bread in Bristol that covers lunch for five, a gift card to retailer Orvis in Avon, and a gift certificate for two hours of free fly fishing lessons, as well as other prizes.
In addition, four $15 gift certificates to Dunphy’s Ice Cream will be given to anyone who catches a golden trout (one gift certificate per golden trout). Trophies will be distributed for different categories, including “first fish caught” and “biggest fish caught.” Trophies were donated by A&E Engraving in Bristol, and Cabela’s has donated eight fishing poles for the derby.
Volunteers are welcome, along with sponsors for trophies. Sponsor names will be listed in a booklet and banner. Sponsors have the option of donating $50 for the 20 inch trophy, $75 for the 22 inch trophy, and other sponsorship donations will be accepted. Checks can be made out to American Legion Post 209, P.O. Box Forestville, CT 06011.
Registration for the derby will take place Saturday, May 30, 6:30 to 8 a.m., before the tournament begins at 8 a.m. The tournament will end at 10 a.m., and prizes will be distributed after the derby.
