Ralph H. Goodwin, 76, of Bristol, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February27, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Gladys (Rybczyk) Goodwin.
Ralph was born in Plymouth on December 18, 1939, son of the late Charles and Doris (Blake) Goodwin. He was a Peacetime veteran of the U.S. Army and was a tool and die maker from 1965 until retiring in 1999 for Pratt & Whitney. Ralph was a member of St. Matthew Church, Forestville and was part of their Retreat League for 20 years. In his younger days he was a volunteer fireman for the town of Terryville. He was an active member of the “Wide Load Associates” enjoying many adventures with them.
Ralph leaves his significant other and best friend, Anne Marie Des Roberts of Bristol, daughter Susanne and her husband Darren Farrington of Torrington; sons John and his wife Kristin Goodwin of Bristol, Steven Goodwin and his wife Emily Gianquinto of Hartford; brothers Allan Goodwin and wife Sharon of Ocala, FL, Michael Goodwin and wife Kaz of Ocala, FL, Phillip Goodwin of Pinellas Park, FL, Terry Goodwin and wife Betsy of Litchfield, Kevin Goodwin and wife Kathy of Torrington; his sister Karen Delaney of Randolph, VT; grandchildren Jessica and Taylor Goodwin, Clare Farrington and Malcolm Goodwin; and several nieces and nephews. Ralph and his wife Gladys were also predeceased by their son Richard Goodwin.
Ralph’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. from O’Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville/Bristol and will proceed to St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Forestville for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Committal service and interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. Calling hours will be offered between 5:00 and 7:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic High School, 1001 Stafford Ave, Bristol, CT 06010.
