Parent and Child Center has volunteer opportunities

The Parent and Child Center has called for volunteers to help in two of the center’s ongoing services.

Volunteers are needed for the center’s Caring Closet, which offers basic need supplies such as diapers and clothing to low-income families with young children, and the Center’s Community Garden.

The Caring Closet needs volunteers to assist families utilizing the program. Walk-in program hours are on Mondays (1 to 2:30 p.m.) and Wednesdays (10 to 11:30 a.m.). The program also needs volunteers to sort incoming donations and restock clothing racks and shelves. Restocking hours are flexible Monday-Thursday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

In late May 2016, the Parent and Child Center will replant its community garden, located on the corner of Prospect Street and Main Street in Bristol. A community garden volunteer is needed to water and weed the garden’s raised beds as well as to harvest vegetables as they ripen. The vegetables are used in the center’s cooking and nutrition classes and are also distributed to the low-income families utilizing the center’s Caring Closet.

All volunteers must complete an application, pass a background check, and attend a volunteer orientation session. Training will be provided.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Kimberly Carmelich, the Parent and Child Center’s Program Director, at (860) 585-3481 or kcarmeli@bristolhospital.org.
