Obituaries: Beatrice (Rood) Fries-Fucini

Beatrice (Rood) Fries-Fucini, 90, of Bristol, widow of Charles “Bob” Fries and Albert Fucini, died on Monday (June 6, 2016) at Village Green.  Bea was born in Bristol on June 21, 1925 and was a daughter of the late Harold and Alice (Baldwin) Rood.  A Bristol resident for most of her life, she graduated from Bristol High School.  Bea was married to Bob from 1946 until his death in 1993.  She worked at Bristol City Hall in the tax office until her retirement.  She and Bob were founding parishioners of St. Gregory the Great Church and was more recently a parishioner of St. Matthew Church in Forestville.  In her later life, she met Albert Fucini and they married in 2006.  Beatrice loved to read books and had a special gift of finding four-leaf clovers.  She loved watching her family over the years involved in their sports and watching baseball-being a Red Sox fan with Bob and finally changing to a Yankees fan with Al for her last nine years.  Bea is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Neil and Terry Fries of Bristol, and John Fries and Elizabeth Smith-Fries of Southington; four loving grandchildren: Brian (and Christina) Fries and Michael Fries of Bristol, Haley Smith-Fries of Boston, MA, and Ian Smith-Fries of Southington; her three great-grandsons whom she adored: Drew, Nate, and Alex; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  She also was predeceased by her sister: Esther Hutchins and nephew, David Hutchins.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (June 10, 2016) at 11:30 AM at St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Forestville.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.  Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol on Friday between 9 and 11 AM.  A special thank you from the family to everyone at Village Green for the love and care she received.  They took such wonderful care of both Al and Bea while they were residing there.  Because of her love for children, she requested is in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, 255 West St., Bristol, CT 06010.  Please visit Beatrice’s memorial website at www.FUNKFUNERALHOME.com.
