Game 1 – Bristol Blues 5, Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 3 (June 1)
Highlights: With the score tired at 3-3 in the 10th inning, Frankie Gregoire (two hits, three RBI) slapped out an RBI single to plate Logan Greene as the Blues won their 2016 opener by two runs on the road at Doyle Field in front of 524 paying fans…Bristol’s Paul Versteeg earned the win while Nick Silva saved the contest for the road squad. Silva struck out every batter he faced while the last two pitchers of record for Bristol did not allow a hit…Mike Nocera of Bristol threw an inning of relief and gave up just one hit and did not allow a run…Bristol starting pitcher, Teddy Carey, did well though he did not pick up the win. In seven innings, he yielded six hits, three earned runs while punching out nine… Lorenzo Arcuri (2-for-5) and Greene (2-for-3) each smoked out two hits apiece for the victors.
Game 2 – Bristol Blues 5, Pittsfield Suns 3 (June 2)
Highlights: In another extra inning affair, the Blues scored three runs in the top of the 12th as Bristol racked up anther 5-3 win to move to 2-0 on the year from a contest played at Wahconah Park in front of 2,205 spectators…This time around, Chris Morris – with the contest tied at 2-2 – slapped out a base hit, scoring Brandon Grover, as Bristol took a 3-2 lead and eventually stretched it to 5-2…The bullpen formula seemed to work again for the Blues as Mike Kreiger (1-0) earned the win during his two relief innings. He did not allow a hit but yielded an earned run, three walks and a strikeout…Silva came in to close the thing out for his second save, striking out two and walking one…Bristol starter Artavious Marsh threw five innings, allowing just two hits, an earned run and struck five for a no-decision…Bristol’s Tyler Roberts was impressive at the plate, going 3-of-6 with an RBI in the winning effort…The Suns ended up using seven pitchers during the losing encounter.
Game 3 – Bristol Blues 6, Pittsfield Suns 2 (June 3)
Highlights: In the end of home-and-home series with the Sun, Bristol nabbed a 5-0 push and eventually won the event by four runs in the squad’s 2016 home opener from Muzzy Field in Bristol as 2,523 fans attended the contest…Bristol chucker John Arel won his first game of the season behind an impressive eight strikeout performance. He allowed just three hits, one earned run, and walked one to earn the win…Losing pitcher R.J. Hall racked up nine strikeouts but allowed nine hits and five earned runs…Bristol only generated six hits but the duo of Andrew Kendrick (2-of-4, two RBI) and Arcuri (2-of-5, RBI) were the offensive leaders of the squad.
Game 4 – Bristol Blues 3, Torrington Titans 1 (June 4)
Highlights: In a FCBL interstate battle, the Blues scored two first inning runs and cruised to a 3-1 victory from Muzzy Field in Bristol, moving to 4-0 on the campaign in front of 2,769 paying customers…Bristol’s Jimmy Titus smashed a first inning double for two RBI as the Titans never got a foothold in the game…Tyler Roberts went 2-of-4 with an RBI for the Blues to lead the offensive charge…Big Brandon Fox won the contest behind a five inning, two hit, four strikeout performance…Also for Bristol, Nocera got in 2.1 innings of work, striking out three and walking one while Plainville’s Mike Munson threw 0.2 of an inning and did not allow any additional offense by the Titans…Silva earned his third save of the year as he threw the final inning, striking out one to close out the event.
