The Blues dropped the first leg of the Independence Day doubleheader 2-1 against their western division rivals, the Worcester Bravehearts. Spotty defense and a lack of offense hurt the Blues all night, as they were only able to tally five hits on the day, coupled with three errors. Jared Gallagher (Central CT State) got the loss despite a very strong outing, going six innings allowing one run (none earned), no walks, and four strikeouts.
The struggles continued for the Blues in the second game of the doubleheader, falling to the Bravehearts once again by a score of 7-5. It took awhile for the Blues bats to come alive, scoring a pair in the bottom of six and three more in the 7th. (Due to FCBL rules, both games of doubleheaders are 7 innings each). However, a pair of throwing errors in the top of 7 allowed the Bravehearts to plate four more insurance runs, proving to be too much for the Blues to overcome. Despite the loss, Ty Roberts shined for the Blues in both the field and at the plate, going 2-3 with a big single that cut the Blues deficit to one in the bottom of 6. The losses drop the Blues to 13-15 on the year, 6.5 games back from the first place Worcester Bravehearts. The attendance at Muzzy Field tonight was 2,891.
