Obituaries: Harry F. Barnes

Harry F. Barnes, 87, of Bristol, widower of Carol (Holt) Barnes, died on Sunday (July 24, 2016) at Ingraham Manor.  Harry was born in Bristol on July 1, 1929 and was a son of the late Harry Clarke Barnes and Lillian (Houbertz) Barnes.  A lifelong Bristol resident, he attended Maplebrook School in Amenia, NY, where he would meet his future wife.  He returned to Bristol to live on Chippens Hill where he worked the family farm: Green Acres Farm.  He was a member of First Congregational Church in Bristol.  The legacy he leaves behind is as the founder of the Harry and Carol Barnes Family Foundation.  Harry is survived by a brother and sister-in-law: Wallace Barnes and Barbara H. Franklin of Bristol; a sister: Nancy Coffin Defeyter of Klamath Falls, OR; nieces and nephews: Tom Barnes, Sr., Jarre Betts, Mike Wray, Nancy Dey, Mark Wray, Susie Hedges, Judy Nelson, and Steve Wray; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother: Oliver Barnes and a sister: Edith Mulligan.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday (July 30, 2016) at 10 AM at the Barnes Memorial Chapel, 49 Pound St., Bristol.  Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Bristol.  There are no calling hours.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church Book of Remembrance Fund, 31 Maple St., Bristol, CT 06010.
