Grants to bring Holmes, Poe to life at library

The Grant Committee of The Friends of the Bristol Public Library have awarded Scott Stanton grants for two programs to be offered in September and October.

The September program will be “Sherlock Homes and the Adventures of the Speckled Band” by William Gillette. The East Haddam Stage Company will perform a re-creation of a live action radio drama. The original 1930 radio drama script used By W. Gillette will be followed to perform Sherlock Homes and the Speckled Band. The Friends of the Bristol Public Library will provide light refreshments.

The October performance of Edgar Allen Poe will feature Campbell Harmon as Poe. He will speak about Poe’s life, death, and influence on American literature as well as give performance of “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven.” Works of Poe will be available to borrow, and a door-prize of Poe’s Complete Works will be drawn. Refreshments will be provided as part of the program.

The Bristol Public Library website will list specific dates and more information on the programs as they occur.
