Mario Maletta, 83, of Bristol, CT, died peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2016, surrounded by his loving wife of 59 years, Angeline (Oppedisano) Maletta, and family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Mario was born in Scigliano Lupia Cosenza, Italy, on April 23, 1933 and he was the son of the late Angelo and Carmela (Pantuso) Maletta. He grew up in Meriden, CT and was a resident of Bristol for the past 48 years. He is survived by sons: Michael Maletta, Mario Maletta and wife Brenda, daughter: Mary Palmero and husband David, grandchildren: Stephanie Burnham, Andrea Kozloski, Mario Nicholas and Benjamin Maletta, Christopher and Carolynn Palmero, and great-grandchildren: Asa Kozloski and Olive Burnham. Mario is also survived by a brother: John Maletta, sister-in-law: Nancy Maletta, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers: Armando, Anthony and Nicholas Maletta, sister-in-law Jean Maletta, and brother-in-law Joseph Oppedisano and wife Maria.
Known for his infectious smile and kind demeanor, Mario’s passing will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege to know him. His generosity and warm, loving nature served as an example to his family and friends. Mario was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and UCONN sports. He was also an avid vegetable gardener and lover of music. Mario served in the navy and retired from the New Departure Bearing Company of Bristol after 35 years. The family is grateful for the care he received from the staff at Countryside Manor of Bristol prior to his death.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday (August 26, 2016) with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol at 10 a.m., followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bristol. Relatives and friends may visit the family on Thursday (August 25, 2016) from 5 to 8 PM at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave, Bristol, CT.
