Obituaries: Donald J.J. Beattie

Donald J.J. Beattie, 91, of Bristol, widower of Helen B. (Reed) Beattie, passed away on Wednesday August 31, 2016 at Countryside Manor, Bristol.  Donald was born in Bristol on August 15, 1925 and was a son of the late Archibald and Elizabeth (Weidenman) Beattie.  Donald was a lifelong Bristol resident and had worked at Superior Electric, and Brunoli & Sons Construction.  After his retirement he enjoyed woodworking in his shed.   Donald was a Scout Leader for 30 years with the Boy Scouts Troop 68, Farmington, and received the Silver Beaver, the highest honor, for his dedication and work.  He was a huge NY Yankees fan, enjoyed going to his camp in Vermont and like to hunt and fish.  Donald is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Edward and Karen, of Harwinton, James and Carol, of Wethersfield and Thomas and Diane, of Canton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara and Michael Hassan, of Farmington, Donna and William Allen, of Plainville; a son-in-law: Hilman Howes, of Davenport, FL; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a great great-grandson and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a daughter: Carol Howes, a granddaughter: Rebecca Chaplinski; four brothers: Edwin, Louis, James and Allan; eight sisters: Agnes and Rose Zima, Frances Bouchard, Jeannette Therrien, Mary Vail, Cora Hill and Irene and Jenil Beattie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (September 6, 2016) at 11 AM at St. Joseph Church, 33 Queen St., Bristol.
