Obituaries: Gerald A. Bernier

Gerald A. Bernier, 73, of Ocala, FL, loving husband of Joan Bernier, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Gerald was born in Bristol, CT on July 17, 1943 to the late George and Gertrude Bernier. After high school Gerald started his career working as a chef for many locations along with fulfilling a dream of owning his own restaurant (The Prop Stop) in Harwinton, CT.  He also worked for General Motors at New Departure in Bristol and then Delphi in Sandusky, Ohio until his retirement after 30 years. Gerald, along with his wife moved to Southington, CT and then onto Ocala, Florida. When Gerald wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending his time outdoors, golfing, fishing, hunting and playing paintball. He was an active member of the Bristol Fish & Game, NRA and PGA. In addition to his wife, Gerald is survived by his four children, Jean Bernier and her husband Ed, of Burlington, CT; Jane Vallee, of Bristol; Linda Lorenzetti, of Ocala, FL; James Bernier and his wife Tammy of Bristol; nine grandchildren: Edward C. Bernier II, Mitchell Bernier, Morgan Vallee, Andrew Vallee, Lauren Vallee, James Lorenzetti Jr., Nicole Lorenzetti, Airman First Class Gerald Thomas Lorenzetti and David Bernier; several nieces and nephews and his loving dog Angel. In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his brother George E. Bernier. Funeral services for Gerald will begin at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, CT, with relatives and friends invited to call between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM on Monday, October 3, 2016. A procession will follow with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at St. Dominic Church, Southington, at 11 AM. Burial will follow with a procession to St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
