Obituaries: Robert E. Olson


Robert E. Olson, 92, of Forestville, widower of Theresa (Virello) Olson, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at Bristol Hospital. Robert was born in Bristol on July 16, 1924, and was a son of the late Robert J. and Lila (Wills) Olson.  He was a lifelong Bristol resident and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.  Robert was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during WW II in the Pacific Arena aboard USS LST-950. He retired from Olson Brothers, Plainville, after 40 years of service. Robert found passion in working on or building cars in his earlier years and later in life he enjoyed tinkering, building and fixing things. Although the tinkering was at his pace, he always managed to do it to perfection.  Robert will be remembered as the cheerful, good-natured center of his family who was always happy to see each new day. Robert is survived by his cherished friend: Angelina DellaBianca; a son: Leonard Olson, of Bristol; two daughters and a son-in-law: Linda Olson Bundy and her husband Ken Bundy, of Antrim, NH, and Tina Olson, of Bristol; three brothers: Kenneth R., Merwin C. and George E. Olson; a sister: Lillian O. Thomsen; a grandson: Nathan Bundy and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, October 5, between 10:30 am and 12:00 pm at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol. A service in celebration of Robert’s life will begin at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
