Sports Preview for Oct. 7

BRISTOL – It’s another busy scholastic week with a key city series battle – involving every school from the Mum City.

It’s the city series cross country meet from Rockwell Park on Thursday, Oct. 13.

Last year’s event was a competitive affair and expect the same this time around from a very fast course.

Here are some other featured events for the week of Monday, Oct. 10:

Boys Soccer – After last week’s city series bouts, its back to the CCC grind…

*Bristol Central – The Rams have eight days off and I’m sure head coach Nate Jandreau will take it easy on the team. Yeah, that will hardly be the case as Bloomfield comes to town on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3:45 p.m. Will the new turf field be ready by then?

*Bristol Eastern – Forget the contest against Berlin on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from Sage Park. The game of the week is on Friday, Oct. 14 versus East Catholic from King Street at 3:45 p.m.

*St. Paul Catholic High School – The game of the week comes on Friday, Oct. 14 when Naugatuck travels to Bristol at 3:45 p.m. in a Naugatuck Valley League challenge.

Girls Soccer

*Bristol Central – The Rams also have a little time off as the one meet of the week is a bit of a drive as the new Enfield/Fermi merger is the opponent. The contest takes place on Friday, Oct. 14 at 3:45 p.m. from Enfield.

*Bristol Eastern – The challenge of the week comes on Tuesday, Oct. 11 when Berlin travels to the field on King Street, starting at 3:45 p.m.

*St. Paul Catholic High School – The interesting meet comes this week on Saturday, Oct. 8 when non-conference opponent Portland travels to Bristol at 1:30 p.m. The following week, the Falcons are on the road against (Wednesday, Oct. 12) and Naugatuck (Friday, Oct. 14) at 3:45 p.m.

*Bristol Central – The volleyball squads looks to continue its playoff push with just one meet, a conference match against New Britain in Bristol at 6:30 p.m. from the grounds of BCHS.

*Bristol Eastern – Eastern has three challenges this week – including at the annual VolleyHall Classic from AIC in Springfield, Massachusetts on Monday, Oct. 10 and back-to-back meets on Thursday, Oct. 13 and Friday, Oct. 14 including a road date at Southington and a home contest versus Plainville – both at 6 p.m. – from the Thomas M. Monahan Gymnasium on Friday, Oct. 14.

*St. Paul Catholic High School – Three matches are on the docket including back-to-back home dates from the Maltby Street Gymnasium against Waterbury Career (Thursday) and Holy Cross (Friday). All matches take place at 6 p.m.

*Bristol Central – The meet of the week is against Plainville from the Dennis Malone Center on Mix Street in Bristol. The event commences at 4 p.m.

*Bristol Eastern – Two meets dot the schedule and the first comes from Miss Porter’s School against Farmington on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3:45 p.m.

*St. Paul Catholic High School – Two NVL challenges are on the docket and both are on the road (what a surprise). First, the Falcons travel to Kennedy on Tuesday, Oct. 11 and then on Friday, it’s a conference tilt versus Woodland in Beacon Falls. Both meets take place at 4 p.m.
