Obituaries: Velma S. Ciquera

Velma S. (Salley) Ciquera, 85, of Bristol, widow of Richard Ciquera, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, Plantsville.  Velma was born in Milo, ME on June 13, 1931 and was a daugh-ter of the late Norris and Pearl Alice (Hews) Salley.  She was a longtime Bristol resident and retired from Pratt & Whitney, Southington.  Velma en-joyed gardening, reading, walking and cooking.  Velma is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law: Michael and Tami, John and Terri, all of Bristol, Ricky and Denise, of Putnam and David, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; two daughters and a son-in-law: Donna Ewen and Nancy and Frank Lauretti all of FL; a sister and brothers-in-law: Betty and Wally Brackett, of Florida; seven grandchildren: Craig and Marnie Ciquera, Kelly and Alli Ewen, Ben Hall, Shelley Hall, Matthew Ciquera and A.J Ciquera and Kari and Corey Middleton; eight great-grandchildren; Jack and Lexi Ewen, Karleigh and Cassidy Middleton, Kyle, Aidan, Emma Ciquera and Noah Ciquera.  Velma was predeceased by a son-in-law: Randy Ewen and a brother; Percy Salley and a sister; Marion Skelskey.  The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center for their compassion and care of Velma.  Funeral services will be held on Monday (October 24, 2016) at 9:15 AM from the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Gregory Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol, for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 AM.
