Sports preview for Oct. 28

BRISTOL – The weather has turned cool again, November is almost upon us and that means state tournament time is knocking on the door.

Here’s a quick look at the up-coming schedules for every squad in the Mum City as October comes to a close.

Boys Soccer

*Bristol Central – The boys soccer team has caught fire midway through the month of October and how best to end the regular season? How about a date against city rival Bristol Eastern on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from Muzzy Field at 7 p.m.? It’s a revenge match for the Rams off that earlier 2-1 set-back to the Lancers.

*Bristol Eastern – Is the state tournament in Eastern’s future? A very important possible tournament seeding contest against Central on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from Muzzy Field will tell it all. Plus, will the Lancers get out the broom on the Rams for a season series sweep?

*St. Paul Catholic High School – The Falcons won’t qualify for the up-coming Naugatuck Valley League Tournament but a hot streak to end the season gets the squad into the Class S playoffs.

Girls Soccer

*Bristol Central – The girls want to topple Bristol Eastern for the first time this season. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Central gets that chance in a 5:15 p.m. contest from…where? Muzzy Field? How about from the grounds of BEHS? Hmmm…stay tuned.

*Bristol Eastern – The Lancers are looking to sweep the Rams to open the month of November as the state tournament picture finally unfolds. The contest commences at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1 from either Muzzy Field or BEHS.

*St. Paul Catholic High School – Are the Falcons playoff bound? Just like the boys, a state tournament push to end the campaign is already afoot.

*Bristol Central – If Central tallied just a couple of more victories this past week, the squad would be playing volleyball into the month of November.

*Bristol Eastern – The CCC Tournament is just around the corner. Check out the Central Connecticut Conference website for further details as the squad looks to fine tune for the postseason.

*St. Paul Catholic High School – Just like Central, the Falcons were on the cusp of a state tournament berth. Did St. Paul Catholic do enough to qualify for the NVL Volleyball Tournament – starting this Saturday? It’s going to be close…

*Bristol Central/Bristol Eastern – The Class L championships takes place on Nov. 16 from Southern Connecticut State University. Details to follow.

*St. Paul Catholic High School – Two events are on the schedule for the Falcons, starting with the NVL trials on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and then on Friday, Nov. 4, it’s the NVL Championships – both commencing at 4 p.m. from Kennedy High School in Waterbury.

Boys & Girls Cross Country

*Bristol Central/Bristol Eastern/ St. Paul Catholic High School – The Class championships commence from Wickham Park on Saturday, Oct. 29 from Manchester. All three squads will be involved while the State Open takes place on Nov. 4, also from Wickham Park.sports
