Helen (Yacheski) Steele, 85, of Bristol formerly of Plainville, passed away Friday October 28, 2016 at Village Green of Bristol. She shared 63 years of marriage with her late husband Raymond N. Steele.
Born in New Britain on December 16, 1930, Helen was one of eleven children to the late Walter and Pauline (Bielski) Yacheski. Raised in New Britain, she attended local schools and had worked as a Health Aid and Scheduler for the New Britain Visiting Nurses Association, the McLean Home in Simsbury, as well as various other health care companies. She married her childhood friend and neighbor Ray in 1951 and settled in Plainville where they lived for 55 years raising their family. Helen enjoyed cooking, traveling and making trips to their Cape Cod home for more than 20 years, but mostly, Helen enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen leaves her children, Kathy Zurek and her husband Stan of Plainville, John Steele and his wife Cathy of Plainville and Jeff Steele of Forestville, her sister Irene Gaber of Southington, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters and her daughter-in-law, Sue.
Family and friends may gather at the Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad Street in Plainville on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A service in celebration of Helen’s life will begin at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held privately.
