Obituaries: Henry A. Szyszkowski

Henry A. Szyszkowski, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2016 after sharing his final Thanksgiving in the company of his entire family. He was the beloved husband of Alice (Couture) Szyszkowski for the past 57 years. Henry was born in Buffalo, NY on April 7, 1934, the son of the late Albin and Natalie (Teresinska) Szyszkowski.  He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. Henry was a longtime Bristol resident and member of St. Gregory Church.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. After his hard-earned retirement from New Departure-Hyatt, where he served as an elected representative of UAW Local 626, he especially enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden, and watching NASCAR and his favorite teams: the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills, Boston Red Sox, and UConn Women’s Basketball.  Besides his wife, Henry is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Gregory Szyszkowski and his wife Rosemary Lepore, of Southington; two daughters and sons-in-law: Janet and William Stokesbury, of Avon, and Linda and Clifford Miller, of Thomaston.   Henry reveled in the academic and athletic accomplishments of his five grandchildren: Leah and Laura Miller, Nicholas Szyszkowski, and Sara and Jack Stokesbury.  He is also survived by a brother, Edward Szyszkowski, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.    He was predeceased by his siblings: Stanley, Stephan, Chester, Jane, Florence, Irene, Sophie, Lillian, and Patricia, and his infant granddaughter, Grace Stokesbury.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016, 10 AM at St. Gregory Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Friday between 4 and 7 PM.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic High School, 1001 Stafford Ave, Bristol, CT 06010 in honor of their 50th Anniversary.  Please visit Henry’s memorial website at www.FUNKFUNERALHOME.comszyszkowski-henry
