Eleanor Dorothy (Wozenski) O’Rourke, of 93 years, passed away suddenly on the evening of December 4, 2016 while at her home in Bristol, Connecticut. Eleanor was born in New Britain, Connecticut on November 19, 1923 of Joseph and Katherine (Spring) Wozenski. She was the youngest, and the last surviving of six siblings (“Brigadier General” Edward Wozenski, Helen (Wozenski) Nawrocki, Ann Wozenski, Joseph Wozenski and Frederick Wozenski). She was also predeceased by her husband, the late Philip Edward O’Rourke. After graduating from the “Old” Bristol High School (now “Memorial Boulevard”), she was a bank teller at Bristol Federal Savings Bank. During World War II she worked at New Departure, sold War Bonds at the Cameo Theater and served as an Air Raid Warden. She and her husband established the O’Rourke Printery that was in operation for nearly 6 decades. In 2011, the business closed its doors, but many fond memories and dear friendships remain. Eleanor always found ways to successfully split her time between family, work and a variety of volunteer groups and activities. She was a Girl Scout Leader; President of the Parent/Teacher Organization at Edgewood School; an active member of the Quota Club, Bristol Hospital Auxiliary, Bristol Visiting Nurse Association (VNA), the Grace Atkins Scholarship Committee, and the Bristol Historical Society, where she served as the corresponding secretary. In 2006 she was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for her work with the Bristol Historical Society. Eleanor is survived by her daughters (Kathleen Schoeck, Patricia Pearl O’Rourke, and Mary Houle), two sons-in-law (William Schoeck and Robert Houle), her grandchildren (Philip, Robert and Michael Houle, and Julie and Thomas Schoeck), three grand daughters-in-law (Lena, Jennifer and Meghan Houle), and four great-grandchildren (Katelynn, Ryan, Emily and Matthew). She showered her love, enthusiasm and devotion upon her family, and she will be dearly missed. Calling hours will be held at DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, Connecticut on Thursday, December 8, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
