Richard G Hebert, 70, passed peacefully on August 22, surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Terryville, CT. He leaves behind his son, Richard and his daughter Kate and her husband Craig Patla. He is also survived by his 3 brothers, Robert, Mel, his wife Kathy and Kenneth and his wife Mary Ann. Also, his grandchildren, Abbey Stackpole, Erin and William Patla. He will also be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews.
Rick was a graduate of Terryville High School and continued his education in master mechanics classes and culminated as an instructor for the State Apprenticeship Council in Automotive, in which he took great pride. Rick also was active in the Connecticut Gasoline Retailers Association, ensuring fair business practices for independent gasoline retailers in CT.
As the owner operator of Terryville Shell from 1973-1980 he got great satisfaction in providing the community with quality automotive repair and gas when nobody else could get it during the gasoline shortages of the 1970s. For 22 years, he was a dedicated member of the Terryville Volunteer Fire Department and a longtime member of the Bristol Fish and Game Club. As a lover of the great outdoors he was an avid hunter, pursuing big game in Idaho, Montana, Vermont, Maine and Alberta, Canada. Rick will always be remembered for his enthusiastic defense of his beliefs, and lack of political correctness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 11:00AM at St. Casimir Church, 19 Allen St., Terryville CT. A celebration of Rick’s life will follow at The Lyceum, 181 Main St., Terryville. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Scott Funeral Home, 169 Main St., Terryville is assisting the family with arrangements
