Library offering summer reading fun


The Plainville Public Library has announced summer reading fun. Readers can track their summer reading progress beginning, June 22 through Friday, Aug. 14. Registration begins, June 22.

Every Hero Has a Story (pre-readers and independent readers up to grade 5)

Children read (or listen) for 20 minutes a day. For every seven days of reading, children are eligible for prizes. Sign up at the children’s department or online via (click on Every Hero… 2015 Children’s Summer Reading).

Prizes are donated by local businesses.

Unmask (students entering grades 6-12)


For every book read and reviewed, readers will be entered into our weekly raffle drawing. Visit and click on “Unmask 2015 Teen Summer Reading” to create a free online reading account. Just log in, add your books read, write a review, and your name will automatically be entered into the weekly raffle drawing.

Prizes are donated by local businesses.

Summer Reading Kick-off with Animal Embassy Live Animal Show. An interactive, educational and entertaining program showcasing animals who lead heroic lives.

Tuesday, June 30 at 6:30 p.m. (ages 7-plus)

Self-defense Ninja. Learn basic self-defense blocks and kicks from Sensei Jocelyn.

Healthyville Mini-Exhibit is back. Stepping Stones Children’s Museum presents this fun, hands-on learning experience.

Thursday, July 23 at 6:30 p.m. (ages 12-plus)

Teens Cooking Demo presented by Shop Rite of Bristol. A hands-on class just for teens of how you can make a fun, healthy and tasty snack.

Friday, July 24 at 10:30 a.m. (ages 2 – 5)

Turtle Dance Music presents The Concert for Little Superheroes, an exciting music, movement and storytelling concert.

Tuesday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m. (ages 6-11)

Shop Rite of Bristol presents Kids in the Kitchen, a hands-on demonstration of how you can make fun, healthy and tasty treats.

Jami Ray will bring all types of drums for you to use while we rock in his Garden of Beats.

Watch and learn hip hop and breakdance moves.

Summer Reading Finale ends with Mad Science presenting their creative take on The Science of Heroes.

The Plainville Police Department will bring by their beloved K9 unit, Ostin and his partner, as officers talk about dogs on the force and how to keep safe on your bicycle.

PFRN Play and Learn (ages 0-5)

Create Your Own Superhero Costume (all ages)

Each week, focus on creating a different part of our costume. Dress up in your completed costume when you come to the special Superhero event that is scheduled.


STEM Science Club – Engineering (best for ages 7-11)

Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. (7-9 through Aug. 15.) Registration is necessary.

Are you interested in science, technology, engineering and math? Then join the STEM Science Club for children in grades 2-6. This program is presented by the Girl Scouts of America.

Intergenerational Knitting & Crochet Circle (all ages and experiences)

Fridays at 3 p.m. (June 26 through Aug. 14. No class July 3)
