Dear Bristol Community:
We are now in the middle of hurricane season and are probably suffering from “Hurricane Amnesia.” Hurricane Hermine is already at the shores of northwest Florida and headed in our direction. While we may not feel the brunt of the storm in Bristol, we should all avoid the complacency of what a hurricane can do to our community. We have not had a serious storm here in quite some time but we must not forget what can happen.
Always listen to the news forecasts about the impending weather. Stay alert and be prepared. Know what you are going to do ahead of time instead of relying on last minute responses. Our first responders may not have time or the resources to help you. Make a communications plan, prepare for either sheltering-in-place or evacuation to a shelter. Have enough food and water and medicine for everyone in your family for at least three to four days. Remember: infants, pets, the elderly and people with functional needs have special requirements. Our main shelter is at the Bristol Senior Center. You will be given adequate notice of its’ opening.
If anyone has questions, please contact me at Bristol Emergency Management or anyone on the Bristol CERT team. Check their website BristolCERT.com for information, like us on Facebook. We are here to assist in times of emergency but you are the responsible party. Do your part to help us.
