Police discover animal fighting operation on School Street

On Thursday, personnel from the State of Connecticut Department Of Revenue Service, assisted by the Bristol Police Narcotics Enforcement Team responded to the Tropical Market convenience store located at 152 School St. on a routine revenue service inspection. While on scene, police said evidence was observed which indicated the possibility of an animal fighting operation. At that time, the store was secured and a search warrant was obtained for the premise.

During the service of the search warrant two roosters, confined in cages, were located in the basement of the establishment along with paraphernalia used to care for the birds as well as items to care for injuries that may be sustained by the animals, police said.

All of the evidence was collected and the two roosters were removed from the property and will be housed at the Bristol Police Department animal control facility.

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
