Activities offered to local seniors


The following events will be held at the Bristol Senior Center on Stafford Avenue:


“Bone Health:”: Miles Everett from the Bristol Hospital Diabetes Center will be discussing the effect of your diet on bone health on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 11:30 a.m.

“Managing Your Money As You Age:” Financial Representatives Keith Weston and Julia Weston of Thrivent Financial will share basic financial strategies and important considerations for retirees and seniors on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m.

Geneology: Find out how to use web tools, DNA, and basic search techniques to discover who you are and where you came from. Jenifer Zinck is a geological researcher, teacher, and speaker specializing in incorporating DNA results into genealogical research. The classes will run on Friday, Sept. 4, 11, and 18 at 1 p.m. in the dining room. There is no cost, but you must sign up ahead of time.

Farmer’s Market Coupons: The Bristol Senior Center has Farmers Market coupons for anyone 60 years of age or older that fall into a certain income bracket. For a single person, they need to make less than $1,800.00 per month and a couple should make less than $2,426.00 per month. Verification of income and personal identification must be shown.

Coin collecting program: Blair Soucy from the Litchfield County Coin Club will be discussing the state of the hobby today and will be on hand to view any coins that people want opinions on. The program will run on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m.

Fall class registration: On Tuesday, September 8, 2015 starting at 9:00am the Bristol Senior Center will be holding its fall class registration. Classes offered include: Tai Chi (all levels), Chair Yoga, Stretch and Relax, Strength and Tone, Zumba for Seniors, Ladies Exercise, Co-Ed Exercise, Tap Dance for Seniors, Line Dancing, Chair Caning, Painting, One Stroke Painting (all levels), Ceramics, Decorative Painting, Discovering the World of Water Colors, Quilting (all levels), and Jewelry Making.
