On Sunday, Oct. 18, the citizens of Bristol will come together for an event to thank the police department for their dedicaton to protect and serve the Bristol community, promising a good cause and tremendous value for attendees.
The event, titled “Hearts Behind Badges: A Celebratioon of Bristol’s PD,” honors the police department’ss historic service as well as the increased effectiveness of the police force in recent years through adopting a community oriented feet-on-the-street approach that has helped forge personal relationships with commercial and residential neighborhoods, fostering a safer environment for all.
“These guys and gals in uniform lay it on the line every day,” said Craig Yarde, event organizer and sponsor, according to a press release from the city. “Now they’re biking through the West End, they’re walking the streets frequently. There’s a new visibility that’s brave and necessary. In a world where police are often targets, these folks are performing a difficult job — the impressive thing is they’re out of their cars forming these personal bonds that sets the standard for communal respect and a safer culture.”
Hearts Behind Badges runs from 1 to 4 p.m. and will be located at Depot Square at the corner of Main Street and Riverside Avenue on the green behind the bus terminal. The entire community including children are invited to come out, shake an officer’s hand, share a story or two, and experience a family friendly atmosphere with food and festivities. There will be live music performed by Acoustic Marsh, plus a special photo opportunity at 2 p.m.
